Common Questions

We have split this section into questions about each section of the insurance and general questions regarding our service;

Q. How much can I insure myself for?

A. Our policies offer options for cover between USD $50,000 and USD $500,000 lump sums in $50,000 blocks.

Q. How do I pick my sum insured?

A. This bit is really up to you, but people often consider things like outstanding loans and mortgages, children's school fees, how much income protection they receive from their employers and their home country or private medical and welfare programmes before picking their level of cover. We do not offer financial services planning and you should consult your own financial planner if you are in doubt about how much cover to buy.

Q. Cover is for loss of eyes, limbs and death from accident. What happens if I have a smaller injury like losing part of a finger?

A. Our Personal Accident insurance protects you against serious accidental injury and partial personal accident claims are not paid.

Q. Am I covered if I am shot or injured during civil riots by insurgents?

A. Our policies cover war and terrorism, but exclude claims arising from death, illness or injury caused by nuclear, chemical or biological weapons.

Q. How are my medical bills paid if I am treated in a foreign hospital?

A. Our underwriters have systems in place to manage bill payment and have the ability to guarantee payment of bills. The emergency service company will liase with the local doctors to help ensure the treatment that you get is appropriate.

Q. What if my condition is serious. How do I get home?

A. The emergency service provider will liase with your doctors abroad and arrange repatriation if necessary. Sometimes patients need to spend time in hospital to be stabilised before transportation and the emergency service will work to ensure that you are ready for any such trip.

Q. My condition does not necessitate emergency repatriation. Will the policy pay for me to return to my own doctors for treatment?

A. The insurance company will often only pay for repatriation if it is medically necessary. If it is safe and cheaper to treat you while you are still away then the underwriter will probably only pay the local medical bills.

Q. How am I paid if I have a less serious condition?

A. If you are laid low by a regular medical condition like a bad cold or a sprained wrist you may be required to pay the local doctor or outpatient treatment costs yourself and reclaim from the underwriter by completing a claim form and submitting receipts. Please see the How to Claim page for more information.

Q. Am I covered if I am shot or injured during civil riots by insurgents?

A. Our policies cover war and terrorism, but exclude claims arising from death, illness or injury caused by nuclear, chemical or biological weapons.

Q. Can I buy this cover on its own?
